A vehicle plowed over this mailbox after skidding off a slippery metal plate.

The chaos began Sunday, according to DeKalb County residents Wendy and Brendan Digel of North Decatur Road. Heavy rain coated  forty slick, steel construction plates causing drivers to lose control of their vehicles and skid off the road. Several mailboxes were destroyed in the mayhem as tires tore through grass and mud filled lawns. A pile of debris laid at the base of a large tree, trunk stripped from bark. Residents say even police and fire rescue vehicles struggled to maintain traction on the slippery plates. Commuter Dude is in touch with DeKalb County Police and Roads and Drainage trying to get a completion date on the project.
