DUNWOODY, Ga. -- Investigators are hoping two women who witnessed an assault at Perimeter Mall will come forward to help them levy stronger charges against the suspect.
The assault happened June 19, when the suspect, Kennedy Miranda, grabbed one of the women from behind and thrust his hips against her as she changed her baby's diaper in the women's restroom near the food court, according to DeKalb County Solicitor General Sherry Boston.
The victim and another woman chased Miranda away and reported the assault to security, but then left the mall before they could be identified, Boston said.
"It's important that we find (the women) to help prevent this from happening again," Boston said in a statement. "Without their description of exactly what happened, we cannot file appropriate charges, which could lead to a longer sentence. We cannot allow someone to target and victimize young women in our community."
Miranda is accused of several other similar crimes, including trying to kidnap a woman inside Barnes & Noble at The Forum in Norcross two days before the Perimeter Mall assault.
He's also accused of exposing himself to a babysitter and young children in Norcross, and trying to force a 16-year-old girl into a dressing room at the American Eagle store at Perimeter Mall. He was arrested at the mall shortly after the restroom incident.
Boston is asking the restroom assault victim and the other witness or anyone who can identify them to call DeKalb County investigators at 404-687-7114.
