Police spokeswoman Jami Gaudet says Colethia Williams was arrested Wednesday afternoon by a U.S. Marshals Fugitive Task Force. Gaudet says Williams is facing three counts of murder, four counts of child cruelty and one count of making false statements.
The late-February fire destroyed the woman's home and police said she told investigators she was at a nearby store when the blaze began.
Three children died: Daija, age 7; Nykhiya, age 10; and Jammarian, age 9.
The fourth child, 3-year-old J'Lon, suffered burns and was taken to the Augusta Burn Center for several days.
Fire Chief Marvin Riggins said he believes the fire on James Street was accidental. It apparently broke out in a room where nobody was sleeping.
State Insurance and Fire Safety Commissioner spokesman Glen Allen said investigators found nothing suspicious about the blaze, and could not determine its exact cause.
