DeKalb County schools needs
DUNWOODY - Gil Hearn doesn't fit the part of someone trying to start a revolution, but in a way, that's what this Dunwoody father of four is trying to do through his computer keyboard.
"I started out thinking of a way to engage people," said Hearn.
One week ago, he founded the group, Parents for DeKalb Schools, started a twitter account, devleoped a website and created an online poll.
"This is not a scientific poll. It does not have random sampling, so it's self-selected," said Hearn.
It simply asked, "Do you approve or disapprove of the way the Dekalb County School System is handling its job of educating children?"
"We're just approaching one week and we've had over 500 responses and you can see 467 of those responses disapprove of the way DeKalb County Schools is handling its job of educating and 43 approve," said Hearn. " I believe if you round up you'd get 9% approval rating."
On the web page, Hearn requests email addresses and for people to indicate the schools their kids attend.
While, so far, most are from the north side of DeKalb County dozens of schools on the southern part of the district are also represented.
On Tuesday , he posed a new question asking about the DeKalb board's choice as finalist for Superintendent , Dr. Cheryl Atkinson.
"Ninety percent of people opposed the candidate that's being suggested," said Hearn.
He plans to give that information to DeKalb school board members.
