ATLANTA -- Georgia's charter school amendment was passed by voters Tuesday.

The amendment will create a new seven member state commission which will be able to authorize charter schools, despite any sort of denial by local school boards.
With 100 percent of precincts reporting, the measure passed by a wide 58-to-42 percent margin.
It was one of the more contentious amendments put before voters in recent years.
Opponents have already filed a lawsuit challenging the wording of the amendment, calling it misleading.
