ATLANTA -- With almost two weeks until Super Tuesday, candidates are shifting their campaigns into high gear.
With 76 delegates up for grabs, the most of any state in play on March 6, Georgia gained added attention from candidates Rick Santorum and Newt Gingrich who held campaign events over the weekend.
National polls have the former House Speaker leading in Georgia by an average of 15 points.
But straw polls held over the weekend in two metro Atlanta counties tell a different story. An informal poll taken during a meeting of the Coweta County Republican Party shows former Pennsylvania senator Rick Santorum leading Gingrich 40-27.
Gingrich is making a strong push for his home state. Monday, his campaign opened new headquarters in Cobb County, the area he represented for many years in Congress.
This is his second headquarters in metro Atlanta; the campaign will open another location in Augusta this week.
