More than $14 million was added to the state's economy due to the production of Diary of a Wimpy Kid: The Long Haul, which opens in theaters this weekend, according to newly released figures from 20th Century Fox.

The film's production spent more than 200 days filming in Georgia, and employed nearly 2,000 workers -- who took home more than $7.3 million in wages.

More than $4.4 million was spent on local rentals and purchases for set decoration, production and other supplies; more than $1.1 million was spent on catering, bakery goods and other food items; over $500,000 was spent on hardware and lumber supplies and equipment, and more than $700,000 was spent on transportation -- including truck and car rentals for the production.

"Georgia continues to shine as a hub for film and television production. With Diary of a Wimpy Kid: The Long Haul, we see the impact such films have on local businesses, individuals and families," said Motion Picture Association of America Chairman and CEO, Chris Dodd. "I am proud of the work being done in Georgia, and look forward to continued success."

Key locations used in the production included the Kiwanis fairgrounds in Griffin, the Georgia International Convention Center, and Stone Mountain.

"The production of Diary of a Wimpy Kid: The Long Haul not only hired hundreds of local crew and worked with numerous support companies, but it will soon spur new tourism opportunities as fans come to see the Georgia locations that were used as the backdrop for the film," said deputy commissioner fo the Georgia Film Office, Lee Thomas.

Diary of a Wimpy Kid: The Long Haul follows three other films in the same series (Diary of a Wimpy Kid, Diary of a Wimpy Kid: Rodrick Rules, and Diary of a Wimpy Kid: Dog Days), and chronicles the adventures of a young boy, Greg Heffley, as he attempts to become famous. Catch Diary of a Wimpy Kid: The Long Haul in theaters beginning Friday, May 19.
