A movie that has blasted global opening-weekend box office figures spent $65 million in Georgia while parts of it were being filmed here.

“The Fate of the Furious” earned $532.5 million worldwide, according to the latest figures from Variety.com. That makes it the largest worldwide movie launch in history, topping “Star Wars: The Force Awakens,” which earned $529 million in its opening weekend.

Portions of the movie were shot in Georgia between January and October 2016, employing 614 Georgia cast members and extras and 932 Georgia crew members.

The movie also spent $3.2 million on 23,221 hotel room nights, and $4.3 million on hardware, lumber and supplies.

Local shooting locations included downtown Atlanta, which was turned into the streets of New York City; the Lakewood Amphitheater; and Northside Tavern.
