ATLANTA -- He is a protégé of Siegfried & Roy; a performer in the grand tradition of show business.

Darren Romeo, named after the legendary Bobby Darin of "Mack the Knife" fame, sings and performs magic and illusion.

Now performing at the Smoky Mountain Opry Teater in Pigeon Forge, Tenn., the entertainer rolled through Atlanta and spoke with 11Alive anchor Jeff Hullinger.

Romeo describes his popular act as Broadway meets Las Vegas.

As a young boy, he grew up in the New York City metropolitan area. He was inspired by the great late magician Harry Blackstone Jr.

In fact, that's a connection he and 11Alive's anchor share.

Hullinger said he loves magic acts and, as a child, received the same Blackstone Jr. magic kit.

“Sadly, I wasn’t very good and opted instead for a career in journalism," Hullinger said.

Shows are available throughout October.
