Dr. Valerie Montgomery Rice serves as the sixth president of Morehouse School of Medicine.

It’s a significant achievement by any measure, especially when you consider that men like Louis Sullivan, James Gavin and David Satcher had all once held the position.

But Dr. Montgomery Rice made history by becoming the first woman to lead the renowned medical institution, serving as both president and dean.

A noted infertility specialist and researcher, Dr. Montgomery Rice would found and direct the Center for Women’s Health Research at Meharry Medical College in Nashville, Tennessee.
