If summer travel plans are in your future, you might wanna book your car, hotel and airfare this week! According to travel search engine Hipmunk, this week of April 23rd is the best time to book because of low fares for most domestic travel.
The site said that people can save up to 12 percent compared to those who wait until mid-June, when booking prices for summer peak. Plus, according to Hipmunk, making your "summer holiday flights the week of April 23 can save up to 16 percent on Memorial Day and 14 percent on Fourth of July flights." Eight percent of all summer bookings revolve around the Fourth of July, making the Friday before the holiday one of the most expensive travel days of the year. Another expensive day? Sunday, June 10 where a flight averages $386.
However, if you miss the April 23 “buy-by” week, the best practice is to book 3 weeks in advance of departure where you can save up to 14 percent.
