An Atlanta man is planning to celebrate a very special milestone: he's turning 100!
John William Dickey was born in Winatche, Wash. on Dec. 3, 1917, according to Alicia Vildor, the activities director at Waterford at Hidden Lake, the assisted living community where Dickey now resides.
Dickey earned bachelor's and master's degrees in chemical engineering from the University of Washington. He went on to work as a plant manager for International Minerals and Chemicals Company in San Jose, Calif. Dickey retired from Kailum Chemicals in Atlanta.
He married Gloria Teifer in 1947, and they had three sons. They were married for 68 years when Mrs. Dickey passed away in 2015.
He has five grandchildren and 9 great-grandchildren.
The family is looking forward to the 100th birthday celebration at the Waterford at Hidden Lake on Sunday.
