Bus driver gets special surprise on last day of chemo treatment

A popular South Portland bus driver got the surprise of his life on his last day of chemo treatment.

A popular South Portland bus driver got the surprise of his life on his last day of chemo treatment.

Jamie Creamer has been fighting head and throat cancer for months.

He gave up his job at the Portland Department of Parks and Recreation and took a pay cut to become a bus driver. He said it’s one of the best decisions he’s ever made.

Creamer doesn't just drive busses though - he's become the South Portland High School Band's number one fan, supporting them at all their competitions. Months into his cancer battle – students got the chance to support him.

They performed a concert outside of his hospital room, and his co-workers drove by in a parade of busses to wish him good luck in his fight.

“It's been a long journey and it's going to continue to be a long journey,” said his wife Tammy. The whole event was her idea. “I wanted him to be inspired, so I said the one thing for sure would be those kids.”

Creamer had chemo flowing through his body, but he wouldn’t move from the window, where he stood watching the kids. At one point, he was seen wiping tears from his eyes.

“Being sick from the chemo each time, I know there's an end to it now,” he said. “I’m shaking because I’m so tired but I just can’t stop looking at these guys.”

Creamer says he can't wait to get back to driving the kids to and from school. He is done with chemo now, but he has five radiation treatments to go.
