SPALDING COUNTY, Ga. — An Italian company will be locating its North American headquarters in Spalding County, Gov. Brian Kemp's office said Tuesday, bringing with it 130 new jobs.

The governor's office said Ecopol, described as a "European leader in the production of biodegradable PVA film - which is used, for instance, to help make detergent pods - would be investing $38 million in the facility.

A release said the company was established in 2009 with " the goal of helping to safeguard the unique landscape of Tuscany by reducing the utilization of plastics and carbon emissions."

"The company manufactures water-soluble and biodegradable film used to wrap everyday products such as detergents, agrochemicals, cosmetics and other consumer goods," the release said.

Gov. Kemp said he was "excited for Ecopol to bring new opportunities to hardworking Georgians in Spalding County."

The company plans to open a facility at Spalding County's The Lakes at Green Valley eco-industrial park, in Griffin. Positions at the facility will include production, maintenance, management and administration.

The governor's release said those interested in applying with the company can learn more at their website, www.ecopol.com. Currently, the "job offers" portion of Ecopol's website only lists openings in Italy. It's not clear when Spalding County positions will be posted.

The Ecopol CEO, Mauro Carbone, said in a release that the company "performed a thorough analysis of numerous properties and communities in the southeastern U.S., and we are confident that we found a great home in The Lakes at Green Valley eco-industrial park in Griffin, Georgia."
