Nearly 275,000 iPhone cases recalled due to risk of chemical burn

The cases were sold at several retailers in stores and online nationwide including Amazon, Henri Bendel, MixBin, Nordstrom Rack, Tory Burch and Victoria’s Secret.

ATLANTA -- Consumers are being asked to immediately stop using certain phone cases after several reports of chemical burns and irritation from some users.

Nearly 275,000 cases made by MixBin Electronics contain a liquid in the outer portion that is mixed with glitter. However, authorities with the Consumer Product Safety Commission now believe that the substance can leak and cause injury.

One of the people who reported injury said they received permanent scarring while another reported chemical burns and swelling to her leg, face, neck, chest, upper body and hands. So far there have been 24 reports worldwide of skin irritation or chemical burns – including 19 in the U.S.

The recall includes all liquid glitter mobile phone cases for iPhone 6, 6s and 7. They were sold in various styles and colors and are about 5.5 inches by 2.75 inches in size.

The cases were sold at several retailers in stores and online nationwide including Amazon, Henri Bendel, MixBin, Nordstrom Rack, Tory Burch and Victoria’s Secret. Overall, there are an estimated 263,000 of these cases in the U.S. as well as another 11.400 in Canada and 400 in Mexico.

Anyone with these cases can contact MixBin for a refund.
