The hot topic inside this year's ecumenical service marking the birth of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. at historic Ebenezer Baptist Church was about the current presidential administration.
The messages from the various speakers tapped into current events in politics -- including President Trump's remarks about Haiti and African nations last week, the decision by NFL players to kneel for the National Anthem, and an overall criticism of Trump's administration and how they have handled minority issues -- which is what Dr. King fought for.

Along with King's daughter, Bernice King, the current head of the King Center for Non-Violent Social Change, US Secretary of Housing and Urban Development Ben Carson criticized the president in regard to current events.
Other speakers, including social and civil rights activist Bree Newsome, Ebenezer Baptist Church's current pastor, Dr. Raphael Warnock, and other speakers spoke of racism during Dr. King's time as well as racism now.
They spoke of how the Civil Rights Movement affected people from all walks of life with so many of them reflecting on Dr. King's contribution and how there is still a divide today.
As people celebrated the life of Dr. King, everyone was reminded that this is only the beginning of a larger celebration of the civil rights leader and so many others who led the movement.
