CHATTANOOGA, TN -- A Chattanooga police officer is in the hospital after he was shot this morning.

Police say the officer was doing a random search of an abandoned building when a man came out shooting, hitting the officer three times.

The suspect was not captured and remains at large.

Chattanooga Police Chief Fred Fletcher said several agencies are searching for the suspect.

"We do not believe there is an ongoing danger to the community, we have police from the Chattanooga police department, from our partners with the county and the state and the federal government out there to find this person who brutally assaulted one of your police officers," Fletcher said.
