34th Annual Hunger Walk Run Unites Thousands To End Hunger
Beloved Atlanta Tradition Event Brings Together Families and Faith Groups
ATLANTA (January 12, 2018) Registration is now open for the Atlanta Community Food Bank’s largest event, the Hunger Walk Run. This year’s walk will be held Sunday, February 25 at Georgia State Stadium (formerly Turner Field) in Downtown Atlanta. For the past three decades, the charity 5K has raised more than $9 million in critical funds needed to make a difference for neighbors facing hunger in Metro Atlanta and North Georgia.
The annual Hunger Walk Run raises awareness about the prevalence of hunger for the more than 900,000 working families, seniors, veterans and children in our community who struggle with food insecurity. Each year, 755,000 people are given the food assistance they desperately need through the Atlanta Community Food Bank’s network of more than 600 partner agencies. In 2017, the Food Bank distributed 70.4 million pounds of food and grocery products--- enough for 58 million meals.
Over the years, the walk has united thousands of people including the faith community, corporations, small businesses and families young and old. With an annual attendance of nearly 15,000, participants are dedicated to helping feed the nearly 1 in 6 Georgians facing hunger. The walk benefits the Food Bank and five community partners: Episcopal Community Foundation for Middle and North Georgia, The Jewish Federation of Greater Atlanta, Lutheran Services of Georgia, Presbytery of Greater Atlanta and St. Vincent De Paul Society.
This year the event will feature live music, a kids play zone and delectable eats from some of Atlanta’s best food trucks. The fun begins at noon with the run/walk kicking off at 2pm. Through noon February 23, registration is $25 for walkers, $35 for runners and registration the day of increases by $5.
