Alabama man charged in Barrow County fight over parking spot

Deputies said the fight was apparently over whether or not the victim had a handicapped placard in his window.
Morris Ellis of Vestavia Hills, Ala., was extradited to Winder, Ga., on March 13, 2018, in connection with a conflict over a parking space.

WINDER, Ga. -- An Alabama man is in a Georgia jail after deputies say he took parking enforcement into his own hands.

On March 3, at about 7:10 p.m., Barrow County deputies responded to an incident at the Fatz Cafe at 442 Atlanta Highway in Winder, Georgia.

When they arrived, deputies learned that two men had gotten into an argument over a handicapped parking spot. According to the police report, the victim, Danny Payne, had parked in the spot angering another man, Morris Ellis, who claimed he didn't see a handicapped placard in his window.

Apparently, Ellis knocked Payne to the ground so hard he received a head injury. As a result of the scuffle, authorities took out warrants for two counts of aggravated assault and another two counts of battery.

Authorities arrested Ellis in his hometown of Vestavia Hills, Alabama where he was placed in the Jefferson County, Alabama jail pending extradition to Winder on Tuesday. He is now being held at the Barrow County Sheriff's Office Detention Center awaiting his bond hearing on Wednesday.
