DEKALB COUNTY, Ga. — Atlanta rapper Ralo is in police custody after being arrested for conspiracy charges following a raid at his southwest Atlanta apartment.
According to DeKalb County Jail records, the 23-year-old, whose given name is Terrell Davis, was arrested April 15 and charged with conspiracy to commit a felony.
11Alive News reached out to DeKalb County Police for more on what the charge was related to, but they did not elaborate. However, police later told 11Alive that the case against the rapper had been turned over to the ATF by their Narcotics Unit.
Because the charge is now federal, police said the conspiracy charge filed by their department was dropped.
Federal agents conducted an operation Wednesday near the intersection of Lucille and Lawton streets in Atlanta where a friend of Ralo told 11Alive the rapper lived.
Haroun Wakil, a friend of Ralo and founder of Street Groomers, told 11Alive the rapper would give the shirt off his back.
"For me, as a friend, I don't believe it. I don't see him as that kind of person. I seem him as someone who helps people," Wakil said.
Wakil said Ralo chose to stay in the small apartment instead of a larger home because he wanted to be closer to the people.
"The people can do whatever they want. They can make up charges but I just don't see him doing that," Wakil said. "He's a good person. He helps people. He has a good heart."
This is not the first time the Atlanta-based rapper has been in the news. In 2016, Davis made waves after video surfaced online of him throwing money in the air for homeless people.
11Alive asked the rapper why he did it, and he said he was just trying to do a little bit of good after being inspired by what happens in adult clubs.
“I feel like I’ve been throwing money in the club all my life,” the rapper said. “My friend Gucci Mane and I was in the club making it rain and I just wasn’t feeling it. I was making it rain for all the wrong reasons.”
Instead, Ralo said he kept his money, and when he woke up the next morning he decided he would use it to pay it forward in his own way – by “making it rain” for Atlanta’s homeless.
