Travis Deandre McCannick is facing a charge of aggravated assault with a deadly weapon after a shooting that the Clayton County Sheriff's Office described as "extreme and unncessary" and "without any provocation."

A metro Atlanta sheriff has placed a shooting suspect at the top of his most wanted list for an incident that could have easily turned deadly.

The Clayton County Sheriff's Office announced on Wednesday that Travis Deandre McCannick had taken the top spot on Sheriff Victor Hill's top ten most wanted list for a shooting that happened on April 12.

According to a newly issued statement, the sheriff's office said that McCannick allegedly got in an argument with the victim and pulled out a gun and opened fire "without any provocation."

The sheriff's office said he fired several times at the victim striking him in the lower extremities. Officers arrived to find the victim bleeding from the many gunshot wounds.

"The victim was immediately transported to the hospital for medical treatment and miraculously survived his wounds," the release stated.

The investigation eventually led to a warrant for McCannick's arrest on a charge of aggravated assault with a deadly weapon.

"Because of the extreme and unnecessary level of violence displayed by McCannick, Sheriff Victor Hill has ordered him placed #1 on his top ten most wanted," the sheriff's office added.

Hill has also ordered his in-house fugitive squad to find the suspect but is also releasing information to the public in case anyone else sees him. McCannick is described as a black male with black hair and brown eyes who is about 6 feet 1 inch tall and 201 pounds. Authorities are asking anyone who sees McCannick to call 770-477-4479.
