CONYERS, Ga. -- In a combined effort by Rockdale County Sheriff's Office, DeKalb County Police and Georgia State Patrol, two out of three armed robbery suspects were arrested after a high-speed chase.

On Nov. 8, DeKalb County Police responded to an armed robbery call in the 6100 block of Hillandale Drive. The victim told police that one of the suspects approached his vehicle and asked for a cigarette. The suspect then pulled out a black handgun and told the victim to get out of the car. The other two suspects then entered the vehicle and drove off.

A lookout for the stolen car was put out and a DeKalb officer spotted it and followed the suspects into Rockdale County. They drove the car to Interstate 20, where they exited and then got back onto I-20 and started to drive recklessly, according to police.

Police pursued the vehicle until it exited the interstate, and eventually, crashed into a basketball pole on Old Covington Road.

The driver of the car, Shykeim Hicks, 17, tried to escape on foot, but was captured and arrested. The other suspect, who was 16, was also arrested, and the third evaded arrest and police are still seeking him.

Both Hicks and the second suspect were transported to Grady Memorial Hospital to treat the injuries they sustained in the crash.

The stolen vehicle caught fire later that night and police were able to obtain a firearm from inside the car.

Both suspects were charged with armed robbery.
