Man charged in 24-hour assault of woman due in court

The victim escaped and sought shelter at a neighbor's home.

A man accused of imprisoning and assaulting a woman for about 24 hours inside a Buford residence is set to make his preliminary court appearance on Thursday.

Thuan Dinh, 39, was arrested on Nov. 29 and is facing two counts of aggravated assault; one count of robbery; one count of false imprisonment; one count of rape and two drug charges stemming from possession of THC oil and 180 pounds of marijuana.

On Nov. 24, police were called to the 590 block of Grand Ashbury Lane for a rape call. When they arrived, they found the victim who told them she had escaped from Dinh's basement and fled to a neighbor's home.

The victim told police she met Dinh in California and they had driven to Georgia together. When they arrived, she said she had been tied up, raped, and tased over a period of about 24 hours.

The victim was taken to a local hospital and treated for her injuries.

Officers obtained a search warrant and entered the home she escaped from, but didn't find Dinh. They said they did find a significant amount of marijuana, described as more than what would be kept for personal use.

Dinh was later caught on Nov. 29 during a traffic stop. Neither police nor the victim knew his real name until they were at the police station.
