Man gets life for killing child's mother in Kroger parking lot

A Henry County man pleaded guilty to several murder charges fore killing his child’s mother outside a grocery store.

Teddy McNeil Jr., 31, entered guilty pleas to malice murder, felony murder and aggravated assault today in Superior Court. Under the negotiated plea, McNeil was sentenced to life in prison.

MCDONOUGH, Ga. – A Henry County man pleaded guilty to several murder charges fore killing his child’s mother outside a grocery store.

Teddy McNeil Jr., 31, pleaded guilty to malice murder, felony murder and aggravated assault Tuesday.

On Nov. 14, 2015, McNeil shot Amy Pitts, 42, in the Kroger parking lot on East Lake Parkway, in McDonough, Ga.

According to police, the couple, who had a child together, argued in McNeil’s vehicle. Pitts got out of the vehicle and McNeil fired one shot striking her, then fled the parking lot.

Pitts was pronounced dead at Atlanta Medical Center hours later.

“Cases like this underscore the seriousness of domestic violence in our community,” Henry County District Attorney Darius Pattillo said. “We hope this plea and sentence help to bring closure to the victim’s family as they continue to heal.”

McNeil was sentenced to life in prison.
