ATLANTA – The search is on for two suspects who police say carjacked a Lyft driver in broad daylight, Tuesday afternoon.

According to the Atlanta Police Department, a Lyft driver was dropping off a passenger in the area of McDonough Boulevard around 12:30. Before the passenger got out of the car, police said he pointed a gun at the back of the driver's head and demanded money and personal belongings. Police said the driver reached up to feel what was on his head and felt the barrel of the gun. A "struggle" then broke out between the driver and the suspect.

"I grabbed the gun and slammed it down on the console and he said, 'It's not a game, I'm serious. Give it up. I want everything,'" the driver, who didn't want to give his name, said. "I go to grab it and the front door opens."

At that point, police said the passenger's friend walked up on the situation and also pointed a gun at the driver. According to the police report, that suspect told the driver to "walk the f*** away" or that he would be shot.

That time, the driver complied and ran away from the scene, leaving the suspects his wallet, wedding rings, watch, cell phone and more. He then flagged down a motorist and called police.

Police said the suspects drove off as officers arrived at the scene, and they are still wanted. It's not known whether the two suspects knew each other before the incident.

Investigators used K-9 officers to recover both weapons used in the incident and the Lyft driver's car. They're now looking for the suspects.

The driver, who said in those moments only had his family on his mind, told 11Alive's Faith Abubey that he's just glad he got away, and the first thing he did after he got back home was hug his kids.

"It's something, because they don't even know," the driver said through tears. "I'm doing this so I can spend more time with my kids, and you try to take that away?"

According to preliminary information, police say the suspects are two black males, possibly in their early 20’s. One was wearing a blue shirt, a white undershirt and blue jeans. The other was wearing a black hoodie and black jeans. A blue shirt was found in the area that one suspect may have discarded.

The investigation is ongoing.
