Police: Suspect behind violent assault in S.C. may be in Atlanta area

It's all connected to a violent assault at South Carolina hotel last month.

ATLANTA — The Atlanta Police Department is joining with authorities in South Carolina to search for a suspect wanted for several charges.

The Aiken Department of Public Safety in South Carolina said Willie Troy Morris, of North Augusta, S.C., may be in the Atlanta area. The 27-year-old is wanted for first degree burglary, kidnapping, strong armed robbery and first degree assault and battery.

It's all connected to an incident at the Howard Johnson Hotel off Whiskey Road on last month.

On March 4, officers responded to an assault at the hotel where a victim was found in the room severe injuries.

The victim told police he got to his room earlier that morning and was confronted by an unknown black male. The man, the victim said, unknown individual forced his way into the victim’s room and began to assault him. After the assault, the victim said Morris took his belongings and money.

First responders transported the victim to a local hospital for medical treatment. Police said he suffered several facial fractures, as well as a fractured back. The victim is expected to survive, and has since been released from the hospital.

Investigators spoke with several people and reviewed surveillance footage of the incident. They were able to identify Morris as the suspect who allegedly committed the offenses.
