After targeting people along South Norcross Tucker Road, two purse-snatching suspects have been captured.
On Monday, July 24 around 3 p.m. Gwinnett Police said a 71 year old woman called police to report a male took her purse near the El Jalisco Market. The store is located at 6083 South Norcross Rucker Road. A witness saw the suspects run into a nearby apartment complex.
The second incident happened on Friday, July 28 around 7:30pm. Police said a 43- year old woman was walking home from a nearby grocery store when she noticed someone was following her. One she made it to the Crestwood apartment complex, located at 6077 South Norcross Tucker Road the woman said one of the suspects walked alongside of her. He snatched her purse and both suspects ran towards South Norcross Tucker Road.
Police were able to obtain surveillance video from the apartment complex that gave a better description of the suspects.
During the investigation, a store clerk at a nearby Citgo convenience store told officers that the robbery suspects tried to steal food from the business earlier in the day. The clerk showed officers a photo of the suspect that matched one of the people they were looking for.
Shortly after leaving the convenience store, the officers were alerted that the suspects were possibly at the Aztec Taqueria restaurant at 6083 South Norcross Tucker Road. Officers responded and arrested Christian J. Williams, 17, from Stone Mountain and Deon R. Hawkins, 17, from Decatur.
Christian Williams was charged in both robbery cases, while Hawkins was only charged in the July 28 robbery.
"I really appreciate the hard work and professionalism that everybody is putting in to make sure our victims get justice," said Major Everett Spellman, the commander of the West Precinct.
