Smyrna Police employee arrested for stealing personal information

A police department's crime analyst in Cobb County was charged with 31 counts of computer theft.

SMYRNA, Ga. – A police department's crime analyst in Cobb County was charged with 31 counts of computer theft.

Shannon Pope, a 17-year veteran of the Smyrna Police Department, posted bond at $3,500 after being arrested on June 21.

Pope, 38, stole information without authorization including driver’s licenses and mobile data of 28 victims, beginning in June 2016, Cobb County Sheriff's Office Lt. Col. Robert Quigley said.

Pope was hired in April 2000, but subsequently terminated on June 2 after her alleged theft.

According to human resources records, she was a court services/probation clerk in 2000, a records clerk in September 2000 with title change to central records assistant. She became a crime data specialist in 2014.

There is no record of any previous disciplinary actions filed with the human resources department.
