Suspect on Atlanta's Top Ten Most Wanted list arrested

The FBI said 25-year-old Rufus Hurst was wanted for hijacking a motor vehicle.

A man on Atlanta's Ten Fugitive List was arrested in metro Atlanta Thursday.

The FBI said 25-year-old Rufus Hurst was wanted for hijacking a motor vehicle.

Hurst was arrested by the FBI led Atlanta Metro Major Offender task force at a home in College Park.

In February 2017, Hurst allegedly stole the victim's 20014 Nissan Maxima at gunpoint. The robbery happened on Joseph E. Lowery Boulevard.

While Hurst is off the streets, 11Alive wanted to know what it takes to make it on the notorious list.

Police said there are several qualifiers, like:

  • The type of crime committed
  • Whether the accused suspect is a violent offender
  • The number of crimes the suspect may be linked to, and
  • The extreme difficulty in hunting the suspect down

In this case, officers said Hurst checked off all the boxes, which landed him on the list.

But there are still other wanted suspects out there - they should be considered armed, dangerous and not approachable. If anyone encounters them, they should call police.
