Drowning of missing 3-year-old Marietta boy ruled accidental

Investigators found the body of the child near the shore of Reeves Lake.

MARIETTA, Ga. — More than two weeks after a child was found tragically drowned in an apartment complex lake, authorities are ruling the incident an accident.

Back on April 4, Marietta Police officers responded to a 911 call from an apartment complex off Powder Springs Street around 3 p.m. of a mother who had just reported her 3-year-old son missing.

When officers got there, they began searching the area. After a 30 minute search, investigators found the body of the child near the shore of Reeves Lake.

The boy was taken to Kennestone Hospital, but he was declared dead.

While there were no signs of foul play, authorities did open an investigation. Weeks later, they would close the case, concluding that the incident was an accidental drowning.

"Our thoughts and prayers for healing go out to the family during this very difficult time," the Marietta Police Department offered.
