If you’re on Facebook, you’ve no doubt seen some heartbreaking stories about bullying. Maybe as a parent, you’ve even shared your own.

According to StopBullying.gov, about 1 in 4 kids say they’ve been bullied at school.

The issue bothered some Gwinnett Co. students so much, they started a project to spread positivity with kindness cards, tracking good deeds throughout the community.

"The bullying thing really hits home and they thought, let's twist it up a little bit and focus on the kindness," Bridgette Brown, a teacher at W.J. Cooper, said.

The students, part of the Destination Imagination team at the school, used their service learning project to develop cards and distribute at the school. Students handed out 1,500 cards with instructions to do a good deed, fill out the survey and pass on.

"They said we should do QR codes,' teacher James Meadows said. "They're trying to track the data and as it starts coming in you see it growing, and it's amazing to see it started here with seven kids."

In fact, students were able to track cards traveling beyond Gwinnett Co, across state lines.

The campaign affecting students as well as impressing their team leaders.

"I think we've all shed a few tears to see the impact a ten or 11-year-old can make,' Julie Pemberton said.

The students ultimately analyzed and presented their data and card comments as part of a state competition for Destination Imagination. Their project won the students their third straight state title and will now move them forward to the international competition in Knoxville, TN.
