The Georgia Environmental Protection Department said they are still investigating the incident and until that is complete they won’t release the name of the tour bus company.
The DNC has released a few statements on the incident, saying that the driver made an honest mistake. They also said the driver made that dump in the storm drain as an alternative because he could not make it to a dump site and didn't want the waste to spill out in the middle of traffic.
Using a popular app, 11Alive’s La’Tasha Givens found dozens of dump sites around the state. Some are free , while some cost a nominal fee. Givens also found several in the vicinity of where the tour bus was located at the time.
A DNC spokesperson said they have been in contact with local and state authorities and the DNC will not face any charges.
A source close to the situation tells 11Alive that the driver has been disciplined. There has been no word yet on what type of discipline, if it came from a governmental agency, or if was from the company.
