NEWNAN, Ga. -- Police in Newnan are searching for man who attempted to lure a 1-year-old child into his vehicle.
According to the police report, the father of the child told police that he was raking his yard while his children were jumping on a trampoline around 1:35 p.m. on Tuesday. A tall, skinny white man got out of his vehicle, stood at the edge of the property and asked the children to come to him.
When the children did not go to the man, he returned to the vehicle and held an item, which the father believed could have been a teddy bear. The 1-year-old girl's older brother yelled, "someone is trying to take my sister."
The father then came around the side of house and said he saw the man trying to lure the girl closer to him. When the man saw the father, he then grabbed her jacket by the arm and attempted to drag her toward the car.
The father said he ran at the man and tackled him, which freed his daughter.
The father said he asked the man what he was doing, but got no response. The father said he then pushed the man down. The suspect got up and ran to his vehicle and then drove away.
The children told their father they didn't know the man.
The suspect is described as a tall, thin white man with medium length facial hair, a beard and a mustache. He's thought to be around 26. He was wearing a brown t-shirt and blue jeans.
The man was driving black, older model 4-door Honda that had a stripe down the middle of both sides. The right rear tire was said to be different than the other three tires. The vehicle was last seen headed northbound on Pinson Street toward Martin Luther King Jr. Blvd.
Anyone who has information is asked to call 911.
