ATLANTA -- A convoy of firefighters and other first-responders took part in a special farewell to an Atlanta firefighter on Wednesday.

Frank Martinez, a six-year veteran of squad 4, is battling stage 4 cancer and isn't expected to live much longer, according to Atlanta Fire Department officials.

His last wish was to see the new Squad 4 apparatus, which was put into service a few weeks ago, in action.

Squad 4 led a special convoy Wednesday escorting Martinez from the Cancer Treatment Centers of America in Newnan to his home in Forsyth County, where he will receive hospice care.

"If you going to cast a movie and cast a firefighter, it would be Frank," said Atlanta Fire Asst. Chief Chris Wessels. "Just a great guy. This is our way to honor him and to honor his family."
