Forest Park officer shot in the neck remains in ICU; photos released

One of the Forest Park officers was shot in the leg and the other was shot in the neck.

FOREST PARK, Ga. – One of the two Forest Park police officers shot on the morning of Nov. 8 during a traffic stop has been discharged from the hospital.

According to Forest Park police, Officer Demarkus Hutcherson was shot in the leg and is recovering well. He is now home from the hospital. Officer Timothy "Blake" Sterrett was shot in the neck area and is recovering. He was initially placed in ICU after surgery but was later moved to another area of the hospital to recover.

The officers were transported to two different hospitals; one to Atlanta Medical Center and the other to Grady Memorial Hospital.

Hutcherson, the officer shot in the leg, is expected to recover from his injuries. He was said to be more concerned about Officer Sterrett.

Hutcherson has been with the agency for 2-and-a-half years and Sterrett 2 years, according to Forest Park. Hutcherson is in his late 20s and Sterrett is 30.

The department said that Wednesday was an emotional day that reminded them of the dangers of being a police officer and how they put their lives on the line every day to protect and serve their community.
