LILBURN, Ga. -- A Gwinnett County teacher has been arrested and placed on administrative leave after he allegedly groped a student on multiple occasions and asked for nude photos over social media, officials confirm.

Derren Evans, a long-time substitute teacher and coach at Providence Christian Academy in Lilburn, was arrested May 17 by the Gwinnett County Sheriff's Office on warrants of sexual assault.

According to a Lilburn Police Department report, the incidents happened on between March 10 and March 22 on school grounds.

Police said they were alerted by a school counselor who told them a student came forward to say she was having "issues with a guy" and had been inappropriately touched by the 27-year-old. 11Alive is not identifying the student because she is a victim of sexual assault.

According to the report, the student met Evans at the start of last semester during the football season. According to the victim, Evans began talking to her more this semester and began making sexual jokes that made her uncomfortable. Initially, the student said she didn't think much of it and did not mention it to anyone.

After a few weeks, the student said she added Evans as a contact on Instagram and Snapchat. He began direct messaging her about staff, students and working out on the platforms, according to the police report, and she returned his messages because she thought he was trying to be a mentor.

That's when the student said the conversations with Evans evolved to become more flirtatious.

On March 10, Evans invited the victim to lunch in his office and she accepted, thinking other people would be there. However it was only Evans and the student.

According to the report, after the student sat down in a chair, Evans walked up behind her and began rubbing her shoulders and kissed her neck. He then put his hands down her shirt and grabbed her chest. She told him to stop and said "I don't want this" before leaving the room.

That weekend, she sent him a message saying they should not have contact, but the inappropriate contact continued. Evans touched her on at least three more occasions and even tried to kiss her on the lips, the report alleges. He also asked the student to send him nude photos, according to the report.

Evan's victim finally told school administration, which confronted him. Evans denied the allegations, but the student provided law enforcement with screen shots of their conversations on the social media apps.

Evans was escorted off the school grounds and placed on administrative leave.

In a statement, head of the school Dr. Sean Chapman said: “The safety of our students and staff is a top priority for us. As soon as were informed, we removed Mr. Evans from class, placed him on administrative leave, and contacted the proper authorities. Since then, we have provided them all the information necessary to conduct a thorough investigation.

“While I’ve always known that no school is immune to a situation like this, it’s still deeply saddening to us," he continued.

Evans now faces charges of sexual battery, sexual assault and child molestation and is being held at the Gwinnett County Detention Center.
