Pro tip: If you've been drinking heavily, don't drive. And if you're going to make the serious mistake of driving, it might be a good idea not to be too conspicuous about it - unless, that is, you really want to spend the night in jail.
Unfortunately for the driver, speeding in an exotic sports car is anything but inconspicuous. And that's exactly what ultimately led this motorist from the lap of luxury to a cold jail cot earlier in the week.
An Alpharetta Department of Public Safety officer spotted the McLaren sports car on Ga. 400 early Sunday morning. She ended up clocking the vehicle at 155 mph after she turned on her blue lights. From there, the road stripes blurred past faster and faster Soon, catching the driver almost became an impossibility and the chase was almost called off. But then, something strange happened.
Alpharetta authorities reported on social media that the driver came to a sudden smoke-inducing stop for reasons still not known. Then again, as the officer went to the window, police said she found signs symptomatic of somewhat poor judgment beyond the reckless speeds and dangerous brake-burning halt.
The officer described the driver's eyes as being "glassy" and she also smelled alcohol on his breath.
After failing a field sobriety test, the driver was taken to jail on charges of driving under the influence, speeding, and failure to maintain lane. He was also ticketed for an expired tag.
Police said they were thankful no one was hurt.
