Police surround a Kia Soul after a carjacking and police chase

ALPHARETTA, Ga. -- Police say one suspect is in custody after carjacking someone at gunpoint outside a local church.

Alpharetta police said they were called to St. James Methodist Church at around 8:20 p.m. where the armed suspect allegedly took a Kia Soul.

An officer soon spotted the vehicle heading south on Georgia Highway 400 but said that the driver refused to stop. Police began pursuit but it ended with a PIT maneuver in the parking deck of the North Springs MARTA station in Sandy Springs, Georgia. The department reports that a K9 unit is credited with taking down the suspect as that person attempted to escape the scene on foot.

A spokesperson for the Alpharetta Department of Public Safety said that it turns out the suspect was also a wanted fugitive out of Cherokee County though authorities have not released a name.

The fugitive now faces felony charges for aggravated assault, theft of a motor vehicle and possession of a stolen firearm. Luckily no one was injured.
