Atlanta BeltLine announces new president, CEO

For the first time in four years, the Atlanta BeltLine has a new leader.

People living along Wylie Street in southeast Atlanta are eager for the expansion of the Beltline, but construction has left some of them flat.

For the first time in four years, the Atlanta BeltLine has a new leader.

On Wednesday, the BeltLine announced that Paul Morris will be stepping down as president and CEO on Sept. 11, 2017, and will be replaced by Brian McGowan.

McGowan is currently a principal with the global law firm Dentons. McGowan is also a former executive VP and COO of the Metro Atlanta Chamber of Commerce and a former CEO of Invest Atlanta.

“For the last four years, Paul Morris has brought an impressive depth of management experience to the Atlanta BeltLine and I am grateful for his service,” said Atlanta Mayor Kasim Reed. “Under his leadership, the BeltLine activated a $43 million extension of the Westside Trail and Eastside Trail southern extension, adding over four miles to the project, and became the most visited attraction in the City of Atlanta with 1.4 million annual visitors.

Morris was elected by the BeltLine’s board of directors in June 2013.
