NEWTON COUNTY, Ga. -- Authorities recovered a body from the Alcovy River in Factory Shoals Park.

According to Newton County Sheriff's Office, dispatch received a call about a person who went missing while fishing at the river bank Sunday evening.

Authorities recovered a body Monday morning, that has since been identified as 20-year-old Ciera Evans of Covington. The case is being investigated by both the Department of Natural Resources and Newton County Sheriff's Office.

The Georgia Bureau of Investigation Crime Lab is conducting an autopsy.

"The Newton County Sheriff’s Office is working closely with Newton County Coroner Tommy Davis to obtain the cause and manner of death," Sgt. Cortney Morrison said.
