Brookhaven clears path for new Children's Healthcare of Atlanta campus

Groundbreaking on North Druid Hills project set to start next year

BROOKHAVEN, Ga. -- Brookhaven city council Wednesday approved an agreement which will pave the way for Children's Healthcare of Atlanta (CHOA) to move forward with a major new campus at North Druid Hills and I-85.

The 72-acre facility will include a 446-bed hospital to replace Children's Healthcare at Egleston, support buildings, physical plant, a Center for Advanced Pediatrics and more than twenty acres of green space.

"We are thrilled to be in Brookhaven," said Children's CEO Donna Hyland. "This partnership will allow us to do what we do best-- get children better, faster-- while also having a transformative effect on the health, safety and wellness of our neighbors in Brookhaven, DeKalb County and beyond."

Brookhaven Mayor John Ernst focused on the economic benefits of the mega-project.

"Our partnership with Children's allows us to accelerate several key projects of vital importance to Brookhaven, while retaining and growing one of our largest employers," Ernst said.

Construction on the North Druid Hills CHOA project is scheduled to begin next year. The hospital completion is set for 2025.
