GWINNETT COUNTY, Ga. -- Police are releasing new details about their investigation into a woman's death more than a week after her remains were found in a suitcase along I-985.

The skull and complete set of bones were found inside a large black suitcase July 29 between the I-85 split and Buford Drive around 11 a.m. by a Department of Transportation worker.

"It was so far into the woods that it was not possible that it was thrown from a moving car," said Gwinnett County Police Cpl. Michele Pihera said. "It was taken into the woods by somebody on purpose."

The Medical Examiner's Office determined that the remains were of a woman about 20 to 30 years old. She was either mixed race or Hispanic and died about six months ago, investigators said.

Investigators are now releasing the details about what she was wearing.

She had on a black Miley Cyrus hoodie, large in size; a black PINK by Victoria's Secret pair of sweat pants with the words "LOVE PINK" on the leg, small in size; a pink pair of 2014 Women's Nike Air Max Cage, size 7. They provided images of the items that are not the actual clothes found.

The cause of death is still being determined, according to the Gwinnett County Police Department. Investigators are working to identify the woman.

"It’s not only vital that we solve the case, but it’s also important that we bring closure to a family who is missing their loved one. By giving a name to the bones, we can begin the process of determining the events in her life that ultimately led to her death," Pihera, said.

There are no missing person cases through the Gwinnett County Police Department that match the remains.

Anyone with information on the case is asked to contact Crime Stoppers at 404-577-TIPS (8477).
