CHEROKEE COUNTY, GA - A 16-year-old boy was rushed to the hospital after being shot in the chest.

The shooting happened around 2:30 Wednesday morning at a home on the 200 block of Alpine Street in Canton.

Canton Police said the teen was on the living room couch when his mother found him shot in the chest.

“It appears that it happened in the rear of the house. It wasn’t a drive-by shooting or anything like that," said Ofc. Pacer Cordry.

Larry Samples, who lives a few houses away, said he heard several gunshots.

"It wasn't automatic, but it was semi-automatic," Samples said.

William Johnson, who lives next door, said he believes someone ran through his yard and possibly heard a vehicle take off.

Police said they have very little details to go on however, they are actively seeking persons of interest and encourage any witnesses with information to please come forward and contact police regarding this case.

The teen, who police said is a white male, was taken to Northside Hospital-Cherokee. He is in stable condition.
