VILLA RICA, Ga. -- Murder of a 3-year-old. That's what a local police chief's son is charged with after his stepson died over the weekend.
Bently Gore died on Sunday afternoon at an Atlanta hospital where he had been since Tuesday after his mother woke him up and discovered something just wasn't right.
Authorities said there was swelling around his eyes and bruising on his forehead. When he was airlifted to the hospital, doctors found multiple skull fractures.
Twenty-one-year-old Joshua Richards was arrested and charged with beating him. Now that Bently has died, Richards is charged with murder.
His dad is the police chief of neighboring city, Carrollton, Georgia, but has nothing to do with this case.
A police investigation determined that Richards caused the injuries to the child by using a belt to seriously hurt him.
