Six families displaced by Decatur apartment fire

Firefighters worked to extinguish the blaze at the Oak Tree Villas Apartments.

DECATUR, Ga. — DeKalb County fire crews responded at about 1:20 Sunday morning to an apartment fire at the Oak Tree Villas Apartments in the 900 block of Clubhouse Circle West in Decatur.

According to officials, when crews arrived at the building, they only discovered light smoke and had to search to find the flames.

They eventually discovered the fire in the floor system and walls of the structure.

Crews were able to attack the blaze and use multiple lines to extinguish the fire which, according to fire officials, had made its way to the roof of the structure.

Three apartment units suffered damage from the fire, according to fire officials.

No injuries were reported.

The American Red Cross provided support and emergency assistance to a total of 14 people over six families with essentials such as temporary lodging, food and clothing.

Red Cross caseworkers will be working with those family units to help with their recovery process and work to share additional community resources with them.
