A spokesperson for the school said the junior had been a student there since he was a young boy but did confirm he "will not be returning to the school."

DULUTH, Ga. – A 17-year-old was arrested after he allegedly threatened to blow up his private school, police say.

Duluth Police said Joseph Mentesana was arrested and charged after he allegedly threatened Notre Dame Academy in Duluth. Police said he not only threatened to blow up the school but also bring weapons on campus.

Police said Mentesana also threw tables and threatened individual students both verbally and through text messages.

A spokesperson for the school said the junior had been a student there since he was a young boy but did confirm he “will not be returning to the school.”

Police acted quickly as Notre Dame Academy never went on a lockdown and there weren’t any incidents.

The school commented to 11Alive saying “their thoughts and prayers are with his family.”

Mentesana is being charged as an adult.
