ATLANTA -- Police say a 92-year-old man shot and killed his wife, 86, at an Atlanta senior living high-rise on Monday, and then turned the gun on himself.
The apparent murder-suicide happened at Saint Anne's Terrace Senior Living on Northside Parkway.
Fulton County Medical Examiner identified the couple as Andrew and Peggy Marinos from Atlanta.
"I don't know what happened or why it happened but this is what we have," said Atlanta Police Maj. Adam Lee.
The couple reportedly had lived at Saint Anne's Terrace for some time. Police, who are treating this as a criminal investigation, said they both were sick.
"We don't know how severe but unfortunately this is the kind of thing that happens from time to time when someone reaches that stage in their life," Lee said.
Residents and workers were saddened.
"The people who I've met who live here are really just full of life," said Margaret Etheridge, whose mother lives in the building. "Many of them are very active."
Police are still working to make sense of the incident.
"It surely wears on a person because we all have usually have someone in our family we can relate to and we would hope something like this would never happen to them," Lee said.
