GRIFFIN, Ga. – A former captain from the Spalding County Sheriff's Office has been arrested on numerous charges, including aggravated sexual battery.

According to the Georgia Bureau of Investigation, David Gibson is charged with aggravated assault, aggravated sexual battery (two counts), influencing witnesses, stalking, public indecency, sexual battery, simple battery, and violation of oath of office.

Spalding County District Attorney Scott Ballard requested the investigation after his office received an internal affairs report alleging that Gibson had assaulted employees of the sheriff's office. Other alleged victims came forward with reports of misconduct and criminal activity against Gibson.

The GBI turned in results of its investigation to Ballard, and warrants were obtained for Gibson's arrest.

Gibson turned himself in and is being held at the Clayton County Jail.
