MARIETTA, Ga. - Funeral arrangements have been set for a Marietta firefighter who lost his life after a suspected drunk driver crashed into the car he and fellow firemen were traveling in. The incident happened Monday around 10 p.m. in Los Angeles.
A celebration of life ceremony for 23-year-old Ron Herens will be held 2 p.m., Wednesday, April 19th at Trinity Chapel in Powder Springs, according to an obituary released by West Cobb Funeral Home. Herens will lie in state one hour prior to the service. He will be buried at Cheatham Hill Memorial Park.
The day before the funeral, on Tuesday, a private gathering with family and friends will take place from 5 p.m. until 8 p.m. at Trinity Church on 4665 Macland Road in Powder Springs.
Herens was on vacation with four other firefighters from Marietta Fire Department. The two firefighters also traveling with Herens, Doug Blanchard and Dillon Guest were taken to UCLA Medical Center with non-life threatening injuries. One was treated for a possible broken collarbone and hip and the other was treated for lacerations he sustained in the crash. A couple in a third vehicle was also involved in the crash but they were not injured. Herens was ejected from the vehicle during the crash and was pronounced dead at the scene.
