GAINESVILLE, Ga. -- Dive teams have made a tragic find in their search for a missing man.
The Hall County Sheriff's Office confirms that their crews found the body of the 35-year-old victim around 6:30 p.m. on Monday. Based on what they've learned, officials believe the victim was swimming with his girlfriend in a cove near the Dawsonville Highway Bridge. At some point, the victim became distressed and went under the water's surface.
Officials said he did not resurface. After an hour of searching, Hall County Fire Services rescue crews turned the operation over to the sheriff's office. With help from the Georgia Department of Natural Resources' sonar imaging equipment, divers were able to find the victim in about 16 feet of water - about 40 yards from the shore.
Authorities are not yet identifying the victim pending notification of family.
